Previews
Check ’em out before they’re famous. Previews is a monthly student exhibition in the Café Muse, opening on the first Tuesday of the month during the academic year. This month we are featuring James Kimura-Green, a junior BFA student, concentrating in printmaking.

Marking multiple blocks of wood with bold calligraphic marks, I then cut out the marks, creating a negative impression that is printed in multiple compositions and gradients of gray on the same sheet of paper. The printing process creates densely layered prints of expressive marks, in which some push through to the foreground, while others are pushed back in space by darker shades of gray and black. The multiple printing process starts to resemble painting; in the way a painter commits much time to one canvas, I have done the same with one print, even though printmaking gives me the opportunity to create dozens of impressions from a single block.
